Tintin travels to North America, where he faces the fearsome gangster syndicate of Chicago, including the famous Al Capone. Hergé’s initial idea was to build his story around the Red Indian people, who had always fascinated him, but he later also wanted to show as much of America as possible: the deserts and the prairies, the modern industries and the big cities, the prohibition of alcohol, the gangsters, the cowboys and the plundering of the Red Indians, denouncing how they were expelled from their lands when oil was found there.
