Edmontosaurus era un gran hadrosauro (también conocido como «dinosaurio con pico de pato»). Vivió a finales del período Cretáceo junto a Triceratops y Tyrannosaurus Rex. Es uno de los pocos géneros de dinosaurios que proporciona muchos ejemplos conservados de tejido blando (piel). Un espécimen reciente incluso mostró una suave «cresta» en la cabeza, como la cresta de un gallo.

Historia: Edmontosaurus ha sido conocido por muchos nombres a lo largo de los años, incluidos Anatosaurus («Lagarto pato») y Anatotitan («Pato grande»). Tres especímenes de Edmontosaurus muestran una conservación notable, incluida la «Momia de Trachodon» descubierta en 1908 que proporcionó una gran cantidad de información sobre la piel, «Dakota» descubierto en 2006 que muestra músculos y tendones conservados, y un espécimen todavía más reciente que muestra que al menos una especie Edmontosaurus poseía una cresta carnosa parecida a un peine como un gallo.
