Historia: Pachycephalosaurus fue descubierto y nombrado formalmente en 1931, aunque es posible que se haya encontrado algún material fósil mucho antes. Se conoce sólo por cráneos, y el diseño de su cuerpo se basa en parientes más completamente conocidos, incluido Stegoceras. Se cree que dos paquicefalosaurios similares, Dracorex y Stygimoloch, en realidad pueden representar diferentes etapas de crecimiento de Pachycephalosaurus. Esta teoría sugiere que a medida que el dinosaurio crecía, las púas de la cabeza se volvían más desafiladas y la cúpula en la parte superior de su cráneo se hacía más pronunciada.
